Contemporizing The Preppy Look
27. July 2011
The preppy look borrows largely from the preparatory schools culture, and can be thought of as the proper and well-mannered trend. This does not mean that you have to behave in a certain way with this trend; the look simply exudes properness.
The preppy look features a lot of plaid patterns, half-sleeved sweaters, berets, neatly-tied hair and khaki pants / skirts. Navy blue blazers are commonly worn by men to complete the preppy look.
The look has been contemporized to integrate modern articles of clothing. Brighter colors as well as modern dress and pant silhouettes accompany the look.
Diamonds and pearls are the jewelry used to accessorize preppy outfits. Simple handbags, which are small in size, are likewise used as accessories to complete the look. Ribbon belts, also in preppy prints, are used to fasten the khaki pants / skirts.
Ballet flats, leather heels and wedges are commonly worn with preppy clothes, for women. Men on the other hand wear leather moccasins, loafers or flip-flops with the look.
The preppy look advocates for simplicity on a number of levels, and the make-up worn with the look should also be simple.
Good grooming is an important aspect of the preppy look. Nails need to cut short, hair cleaned thoroughly and men need to be clean-shaven for the ideal preppy outlook.
