Anonymous Attacks Syrian Ministry Of Defense Website
08. August 2011
The hacker collective group Anonymous often makes its opinions through hacking. The group always attacks the websites of government agencies to make the important news and information to the public and the companies who speak against Wikileaks. However, today on August 8, Anonymous claimed the responsibility on the hack of Syrian Ministry of Defense in a message on the Twitter account.
The website of the Syrian Ministry of Defense went offline early in the morning and is no longer available after the hack. Anonymous replaced the home page of the site with a modified version of the 1932 green-white-black flag and two red stars on the white part. In the middle of the flag they also inserted their logo and a message on the black part which is written in English and Arabic.
The English part of the message reads, “To the Syrian people: The world stands with you against the brutal regime of Bashar Al-Assad. Know that time and history are on your side – tyrants use violence because they have nothing else, and the more violent they are, the more fragile they become. We salute your determination to be non-violent in the face of the regime’s brutality, and admire your willingness to pursue justice, not mere revenge. All tyrants will fall, and thanks to your bravery Bashar Al-Assad is next.
To the Syrian military: You are responsible for protecting the Syrian people, and anyone who orders you to kill women, children, and the elderly deserves to be tried for treason. No outside enemy could do as much damage to Syria as Bashar Al-Assad has done. Defend your country – rise up against the regime! – Anonymous.”
Syrian government launched a series of crackdowns on protester in April. Since then, about 2000 people died, according to the count of some human right groups. The green part of the flag showed the pictures of opposition and military leaders and the alleged victims of the Syrian government’s crackdowns.
With the hack of the Syrian government site, the ‘Hactivist’ group Anonymous just wants to express their opinion about the human rights violation of the national government in the country and to inspire the people of the country to rise up against the regime.
