Leonardo Da Vinci’s 500 Year Old Sketch Turned Into An Actual Handbag
23. January 2012
500 years ago, Leonardo Da Vinci came up with the sketch of a purse which has now been turned into an actual luxury handbag.
Gherardini, an Italian leather goods company, has begun producing the bags in limited quantities. Historical research has concluded that the sketch was made around 1497, and the original sketch was filed in The Codex Atlanticus; which is a book containing all of Da Vinci’s drawings, theorems and notes.
Named the Pretiosa, Latin for Precious, the calfskin bags feature intricate handcrafted constructions and details. The bags also feature embroidery details, along with hand-etched brass handle bars.
There are only 99 Pretiosa bags in existence, and their price tag is yet to be disclosed. The bags are however expected to go on sale from the 1st of March.
