Facebook Suffers Wave Of Spam Messages

The widely popular social networking website Facebook is hit with a series of spam messages that aims to get vital information from its members.

The administrators of Facebook already warned its members to be always on the lookout for these spam messages that their account will not hacked by the brains behind this activity. According to reports, these spam messages contain pictures showing graphic sex and violence.

Computer experts explained social networking sites are favorite targets of spam messages since people trust these sites. Facebook revealed they made the warning after many of their members complained that they receive many links on their Facebook pages taking them to images depicting jarring violence and graphic pornography.

The social networking site said the latest spam attack enticed users to click on links offering some sort of promise — free plane tickets, a fun new video or answers to a quiz. Facebook called all its members to calm down since their computer experts are now dealing with the problem to ensure it cannot create headache to them.

Moreover, Facebook said they have already built an enforcement mechanisms to quickly shut down the malicious pages and accounts that attempt to exploit the vulnerability. Facebook is a social networking service and website launched in February 2004, operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc.As of July 2011, Facebook has more than 750 million active users.

Users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile. Facebook users must register before using the site. Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups, organized by workplace, school or college, or other characteristics.

The name of the service stems from the colloquial name for the book given to students at the start of the academic year by university administrations in the United States to help students get to know each other better. Facebook allows any users who declare themselves to be at least 13 years old to become registered users of the website.

Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow computer science students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. The website’s membership was initially limited by the founders to Harvard students, but was expanded to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and Stanford University.

It gradually added support for students at various other universities before opening to high school students, and, finally, to anyone aged 13 and over, but based on ConsumersReports.org on May 2011, there are 7.5 million children under 13 with accounts, violating the site’s terms.

Microsoft, Yahoo, AOL Are Now Partners To Battle Dominance Of Google And Facebook

Microsoft Corp., Yahoo, and AOL are some of the most renowned companies that played a significant role in the modern Internet and Telecommunication. These companies have recently agreed to partner, announced on November 8, 2011, to fight against the top listed Google and Facebook that gained popularity much then them in the past few years, according to the Microsoft’s News Release.

According to the agreement, the three companies have the right to access the online display inventory of one another. Within next year, the three companies will join in each other’s real-time bidding technologies. As a starting, they will access using Microsoft Advertising Exchange, Yahoo Right Media Exchange, and AOL’s exchange technology. The partnership should increase the demand of the display advertising offerings of the three companies as well as provide better return to the publishers and advertisers.

Facebook acquired the top place in display advertising revenue from Yahoo in 2011 and its percentage increased to 17.7 percent from 12.2 percent. At the same time, Google increased from 8.6 percent of the market to 9.3 percent. On the other hand, Microsoft Corp, Yahoo and AOL’s share markets are decreasing, According to the reports of the iStockAnalyst.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Microsoft and AOL and bring to market what we believe will be a more efficient, effective and more effortless way to access true premium inventory and formats,” said Ross Levinsohn, the executive vice president of Yahoo in America. He also added, “There has a been a significant shift in how inventory is bought and sold, and we’re now 100 percent focused on controlling our own destiny, working directly with marketers and agencies and driving better returns for our advertising partners.”

The three American companies also agreed that their sales terms would be unchanged and they will ‘actively compete’ for the publishers and the advertisers for their own unique products. It can be considered that partnership would surely improve the worldwide internet and would help the companies.

Facebook Threat From Anonymous Was Fake

The Facebook users all over the world became very worried and bothered when the threat to Facebookcame from the world’s most notorious hacker group Anonymous. Today remarks the day, that was fixed by Anonymous to attack the social networking giant Facebook. However, in a post today, the members of the hactivist group expressed that they are very upset about the reports of Facebook attack and also claims that the treat was not real, according to CNET news.

According to the statement posted today, the hacker group does not take any movement that may not be accepted by the people. Their movements depend on communicating with people around the world so that they can help one another. “If you are against how we communicate on facebook, twitter, and anonops for example then you are against anonymous and become our enemy since you are trying to disrupt our movement. Because of this we decided to social the Opfacebook skiddy and hack him,” the post said.

“One skiddy queer chap named Anthony Guerra from the US in Ohio decided to take it upon himself to have some lulz with creating an imaginary opfacebook and pawning it off as a legit anon op. Despite us telling this mate several times we did not support his op, he continued to push his agenda for lulz. This op is phony but he continues to say it’s an anon op,” Anonymous said. According to the post, no one member is bigger than the group. No one can work without the help of the other members of the group. The writer of the post wrote about the member who wanted to do such an imaginary task and also gave the address and phone number at the end of the post.

A woman received the phone, number listed in the post, and said that someone with the name Anthony lives there but he was not involved with Anonymous, according to CNET reports. It is obviously a good news for the users of Facebook. Thanks Anonymous for not taking down our favorite social networking site Facebook.

Facebook Diagnosed With Another Programming Bug

World famous social networking website, Facebook, is apparently making news again after a security expert had discovered a subtle programming error on their website code. This researcher, Nathan Power, who is works at the CDW consultancy firm apparently found out about a programming error on the website’s code which could allow a user to send a malicious code or a virus to another user, via its messaging option. This problem is a reminiscent of the May 2011 error which allowed all advertisers and app developers to access the personal information of the users, where no serious damage was caused in spite of all the fear it generated. However, Facebook as taken a long time to acknowledge this one as it has already been lingering around for a month.

According to a blog post by Power, this flaw allowed the user an option which would be just send an ERROR message under normal circumstances, due to the company’s policy on account privacy. After suspecting something out of place, Power than decided to investigate on his own by analyzing the POST request code, that was circulating in the servers. After a testing the code, he realized that by he could manipulate the POST request simply by typing a small message near the filename variable, thus allowing him to send an executable message or an attachment with relative ease. To put it in simple terms, this hole in the code can allow a person to send a potentially malicious or virus laden file attachment to any user, thus increasing the risk of the circulation of a harmful virus that can potentially damage the entire server, thus putting the private information of millions at risk.

In a surprising turn of events, the company officials merely brushed aside the error as a minor glitch. Ryan McGeehan, who is the head of the website’s security department, released a statement to the press valiantly claiming that such a glitch can only be misused if the perpetrator has some additional technical acumen that can allow him to bypass the website’s secondary security features. So, all we can do is hope that Facebook really does have the problem in control which means there is nothing to worry about.

Man Arrested For Punching Wife Who Did Not Like His Facebook Status

A 36-year-old man from Carsbad, New Mexico, in the United States is now behind bars and facing charges, for punching his wife and subsequently pulling her hair, after the latter did not push the like button of his status in the widely popular networking website Facebook.

Benito Apolinar is currently in jail, after he assaulted his own wife for not liking his FB update regarding the death anniversary of his mother. Apolinar who already admitted guilt to his battery charges, in connection with the incident, was reportedly angry to his wife 15 years, for not liking his FB update.

The suspect was deeply hurt to know that his wife did not show any form of sympathy to him. The husband who is drunk on the time of the incident, is set to appear in court for his case on December 22.

Rumor: Facebook To Announce Partnership With Hulu

Facebook had to face problems of losing millions of users due to the search giant Google’s social networking site, Google+. A recent threat from the hacker group Anonymous, through a video clip, is also a big reason to worry for Facebook. Ultimately, Facebook is now in a fix. However, in this situation, to gather more users, the CEO of the social networking giant, Mark Zuckerberg, is going to launch new features, sharing TV and movie contents on Facebook, at the f8 developer conference next week, according to a rumor.

The main theme of the conference is to highlight a new music service. On the other hand, according to the rumor, Facebook is also going to strengthening its relation with premium TV content service, Hulu, in the conference.

The new features would help users to see what their friends are watching on Hulu and share video content between their personal Facebook networks. Hulu will provide free content with a simple content sharing facility. Hulu also has a pay tier site named Hulu Plus, which has been offering free use for a month to encourage users to connect their Hulu accounts to Facebook.

The source believes that though Facebook didn’t take the first step to form partnerships, it may select other video providers. However, there are also some premium TV content providers in the list of Facebook board members. “One source familiar with the conversations said Netflix is also very close to Facebook. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings is on the Facebook board, but because Netflix is a subscription site, is more difficult to integrate,” according to the New York Post.

There is no doubt, the new step would be very effective to gather more users on Facebook. Obviously, a successful relation with the social networking giant Facebook will bring more video traffic for the sites.

Survey Shows Half of American Adults Are Hooked On Social Networks

The popularity of social networking websites is quite big in the United States today.

This developed after a recent survey has shown that almost half of American adults are currently using social networking sites whenever they are on the internet. Based on the research conducted by the prestigious Pew Internet & American Life Project they also discovered that Facebook and Twitter are the favorite social networking sites of adult Americans.

The same survey also uncovered that many senior Americans aged 50 to 64 today as much as 32 percent also use social networking website everyday. According to reports, the survey was conducted April 26 to May 22 among 2,277 adults.

Starbucks is becoming more popular not only because of its coffee but also due to the social networking website Facebook.

A recent survey has shown that Starbucks had become the favorite hang-out to all those people who wants to do Facebook. Many Facebook aficionados found Starbucks, which has 17,000 outlets around the world a great place to do their Facebook activity which is why they decided to hang-out to the place regularly.

Taking the second spot in the survey is Buffalo Wings which has 700 outlets, above two notches higher than global burger giant McDonald who has 32,000 global locations. Starbucks Corporation is an international coffee and coffeehouse chain based in Seattle, Washington.

Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse company in the world with 11,000 outlets in the United States, over 1,000 in Canada, over 700 in the United Kingdom, and over 100 in the Philippines. According to reports, Starbucks sells drip brewed coffee, espresso-based hot drinks, other hot and cold drinks, coffee beans, salads, hot and cold sandwiches and panini, pastries, snacks, and items such as mugs and tumblers.

Through the Starbucks Entertainment division and Hear Music brand, the company also markets books, music, and film. Moreover, it was learned that many of the company’s products are seasonal or specific to the locality of the store.Starbucks-brand ice cream and coffee are also offered at grocery stores.

Target Of Facebook Murder Plot Was Shot And Killed

People all over the world usually use the most popular social network Facebook for recreation, communication with friends and sharing their opinions. But, it is a matter of sorrow that recently Facebook was used to plot a murder plan. The plan succeeded and the target of the ‘murder-for-hire’ plot was shot and killed on Monday August 15.

Twenty two year-old Corey White was shot once in the chest at the 5100 block of Hadfield Street in Philadelphia around 7.45 pm on Monday. He was then carried to the local hospital Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The doctors in the hospital pronounced him dead, according to the police of Philadelphia.

In June, London Eley, 19, wrote in a post on Facebook that she will pay a stack if somebody kills her baby’s father. Eley was the ex-girlfriend of White. In response of the post, Timothy Bynum, 18, wrote, “say no more. what he look like. where he be at. need that stack 1st ima mop that bull,” according to the police. A stack means $1000.

Police arrested Eley and Bynum in June before they could succeed their plan after tipping the post of Facebook. Since then the alleged two have been in jail. On Monday, they appeared in a municipal court where the judge agreed to lower their bail. But, after a few hours, White was shot on the street.

“The preliminary investigation reveals that the occupants of a brown vehicle pulled up on the decedent, got out, there was some type of verbal confrontation — and one of them pulled out a gun and shot him once in the chest,” Philadelphia police James Clark said. The car used for the murder had been stolen from 69th Street Station and was found on fire in Yeadon, Pa.

Police still investigating the case and have not arrested any suspects after White’s death. Police also have not yet said whether the post on Facebook is related to the murder or not.
