Gladiator star Russell Crowe says sorry for anti-circumcision tweets

Gladiator star Russell Crowe has apologized for his earlier statement that “Circumcision is barbaric and stupid".
Oscar award winning and Gladiator star Russell Crowe has apologized to all those people around the world when he made some anti- circumcision comment on Twitter.
In his Twitter account, the Hollywood A-lister says sorry to all who might have been offended when he twitted earlier that “Circumcision is barbaric and stupid”. Crowe also said in his seemingly anti-circumcision tirade on the microblogging website that “Who are you to correct nature? Is it real that GOD requires a donation of foreskin? Babies are perfect.”
The series of tweets created huge response from many people especially the Jews who felt offended when they heard the news on the media.The widely popular actor said he had no intention to hurt people when he made the statement since he was only airing his opinion on the matter.
However since some people might perceive that his statement is a form of mockery on a religious tradition he is deeply sorry for his tweets.“I have a deep and abiding love for all people of all nationalities, I’m very sorry that I have said things on here that have caused distress,” Crowe said on his Twitter account.
While many people have condemned Crowe for his statement, the Hollywood star got some support from his friend Jewish film director Eli Roth saying Crowe is a nice person who respects all kinds of religion.Roth said the media just blown out proportion the statement of Crowe by making it appear that the actor is insulting the “Jews” or those people who believe in circumcision.
“Russell is a great person and respectful of all religions,” Roth was quoted as saying.Male circumcision is defined as the surgical removal of some or all of the foreskin (prepuce) from the penis.
In religious tradition, male circumcision is considered a commandment from God in Judaism.In Islam, though not discussed in the Qur’an, male circumcision is widely practised and most often considered to be a sunnah.
It is also customary in some Christian churches in Africa, including some Oriental Orthodox Churches.Data from the the World Health Organization (WHO), global estimates suggest that 30% of males are circumcised, of whom 68% are Muslim.
The prevalence of circumcision varies mostly with religious affiliation, and sometimes culture.Moreover it was learned that most circumcisions are performed during adolescence for cultural or religious reasons;in some countries they are more commonly performed during infancy.
