The reign of New York City as fashion capital of the world for many years is now officially over.
This developed after a recent survey by a reliable internet tracking company declare London, the capital of United Kingdom as the new fashion capital of the world. The Global Language Monitor revealed London grabbed the huge honor due to the superb fashion shown by the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and Alexander McQueen.
The internet tracking company said 2011 is the year for London thanks mainly to the royal fashion style of Middleton which globally recognized due to her stylish wedding dress. “We are seeing what the impact of two genuine media stars, Princess Kate and Alexander McQueen can have upon a global ranking,” the internet tracking company said.
Based on the same survey, London and New York are followed by Paris, Milan, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong. Barcelona, Singapore, Tokyo and Berlin are also featured in the top ten. London Fashion Week (LFW) is one of the highest profile events in the UK and one of the ‘big four’ global catwalk influencers.
Organised by the British Fashion Council (BFC) and funded by a number of sponsors (including Canon Europe current headline sponsor for seven consecutive seasons). LFW puts London and British Fashion firmly on the international stage, generating orders in the region of £100m.
In addition, the event itself contributes £20 million to the London economy in terms of direct spend and attracts visitors from over 25 countries including US, France, Italy, Russia, Middle East, China and UAE.
