Fans and officials of Dallas Cowboys are now smiling after the prestigious Forbes Magazine declared the National Football League sports franchise, as the most valuable sports team in the United States today.

The Forbes magazine said the Cowboys franchise is worth $1.85 billion to top their survey in the NFL and the entire US professional sports league. Based on the same survey, Major League Baseball’s legendary team New York Yankees ranked second in the survey with its $1.7 billion.

It was learned on the same survey, that Manchester United of the English Premier League is the top sports team in the entire world with its $1.9 billion worth. Among the NFL teams, the Washington Redskins took second place as the most valuable franchise in the premier professional football league in the planet with $1.55 billion.

Rounding up the top five in the most valuable franchise in the NFL are  New England Patriots ($1.4 billion), New York Giants ($1.3 billion)and New York Jets ($1.223 billion). Forbes explained they took the survey based on the data they gathered from the different sports teams in 2010.

According to reports, the Cowboys joined the NFL as a 1960 expansion team. The team’s national following might best be represented by its NFL record of consecutive home sell-outs.  The Cowboys’ streak of 160 sold-out regular and post-season games began in 1990, and included 79 straight sellouts at their former home, Texas Stadium, and 81 straight sell-outs on the road.

The franchise shares the record for most Super Bowl appearances (8) with the Pittsburgh Steelers, corresponding to most NFC championships (8). Moreover, the Cowboys are the only NFL team to record 20 consecutive winning seasons (1966–1985), in which they only missed the playoffs twice (1974 and 1984), an NFL record that remains unbroken and unchallenged. It remains one of the longest winning streaks in all of professional sports.

NFL Play Go Hi-tech As Tamba Bay Buccaneers Uses iPads As Playbook

    27. August 2011

The realm of technology has reached the domain of the National Football League.

The time and honored paper playbooks had just been replaced by iPads in the forthcoming National Football League season. According to reports, the management of Tampa Bay Buccaneers has decided to abandon the traditional paper playbooks in exchange for iPads.

No less than the head coach of the Buccaneers Raheem Morris made the decision that his team use iPads this year for their plays and strategies. Morris made the decision to provide comfort to his players and offer more security and protection to their plays against their opponents.

Some 90 iPads is set to be given to the Buccaneers team, which the player can bring at home and anywhere while the NFL season is in effect. To ensure that the plays of the Buccaneers will be used by other teams, the management has asked each player to return the iPads once the forthcoming NFL season ends.

The Buccaneers head-coach said iPads are better than paper playbooks since, aside from the fact that is more comfortable to the players, their plays can also be easily protected with the use of passwords. It can be recalled that in 2005, one of the top players of the Miami Dolphins running back Rickey Williams caused a commotion when he left their paper playbook at a hotel room in Pittsburgh. Moreover, the Buccaneers hoped their iPad playbook will lead to a successful year for the team in the next NFL season.

Larry Fitzgerald Vow Victory After $120 Million Deal With Arizona Cardinals

    22. August 2011

Long-time Arizona Cardinals superstar receiver Larry Fitzgerald has vowed to give it his all for his team in the next few years in the National Football League season.

Fitzgerald made the commitment after he recently signed an eight-year deal worth $120 million to stay with the team after the end of his previous contract with them. The superstar receiver is very happy with his new deal, considered as one of the riches deal in NFL history and thank the management for their huge trust on his talent.

“Growing up, since I was 7 years old, this has been the game I love and something I have been so passionate about,” Fitzgerald said. The Cardinals management for its part are also happy with the chance to sign their star player Fitzgerald to a new deal since they believe he has what it takes to carry the team to success for years to come.

With his new deal, Fitzgerald is expected to retire as a member of the Cardinals once his new deal expires. Since being drafted as the third over-all draft pick in 2009 as a 19-year-old, Fitzgerald had done wonders for the Cardinals.

The 6-foot-3, 218 pound receiver has become the franchise’s career leader in receptions with 613 and needs just 294 yards to surpass Roy Green for career yards receiving. In his team’s surprise run to the Super Bowl in the 2008 season, Fitzgerald shattered most of the NFL playoff receiving records.

Fitzgerald has topped 1,000 yards receiving in five of his seven NFL seasons, including the last four. He caught 90 passes for 1,137 yards last season even though the Cardinals had one of the worst offences in the league while struggling to a 5-11 record, in large part because of poor quarterback play in the wake of the retirement of Kurt Warner.

Indianapolis Colts Strengthen NFL Roster With Signing Of Peyton Manning

    02. August 2011

Now that the National Football League lockout is over it’s all system go for the next season of the top professional football league in the planet.

Once the new officially starts, the Indianapolis Colts is expected to perform well since it already signed its top player quarterback Peyton Manning to a five-year $90 million deal. Based on the new deal, the Colts are expected to pay Manning $69 million of his contract in the next three years starting this year.

Colts owner Jim Irsay said the team is very happy to have the four-time Most Valuable Player on its fold probably until the end of his NFL playing career. “Signing Peyton was a top priority for this organization and we are thrilled that the deal is complete,” Irsay said.

Manning for his part is very happy with his new deal and thank the Colts for the trust and confidence and he promised to do his best to bring them the championship bacon. He holds the record for most NFL MVP awards with four.

He was drafted by the Colts as the first overall pick in 1998 after a standout college football career with the Tennessee Volunteers. He is the son of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning and the older brother of current New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

Manning holds NFL records for consecutive seasons with 4,000 or more yards passing and the most total seasons with 4,000 or more yards passing in a career. Manning holds the sixth highest career passer rating (94.9) in NFL history and the highest single-season passer rating (121.1 in 2004).

He is the all-time Colts franchise leader in career wins, career passing yards, pass attempts, pass completions, and passing touchdowns. In 2009, he was listed by The Sporting News as the No. 1 player in the NFL today. Also in 2009, Fox Sports named him player of the decade.

Irsay hoped that with Manning’s guidance the Colts will perform well and hopefully take the NFL crown this year. According to reports, the new deal signed by Manning is considered a bargain price and allows the team to sign more quality players to make its team even more stronger for the next NFL season.

The Colts have already re-signed two key veterans — safety Melvin Bullitt and kicker Adam Vinatieri — this week. They also lost linebacker Clint Session to Jacksonville in free agency. They reportedly also signed running back Joseph Addai, shortly after Manning’s deal was announced.

Addai would be a major help because he’s the best blocking back Indy has. That leaves left tackle Charlie Johnson and defensive tackle Dan Muir as the next big ticket items. They still have not signed their first three draft picks, either, tackles Anthony Castonzo and Ben Ijalana or defensive tackle Drake Nevis.

NFL Lockout Could Be Lifted Soon

    26. July 2011

The current lockout or work stoppage in the National Football League could soon be over after team owners and players have agreed to a new deal that will govern the league in the next few years. (Photo: nfllive-online.com)

Here is a piece of good news to the fans and followers of professional football around the world.

According to reports, the current lockout or work stoppage in the National Football League, the premier professional football league in the planet could be lifted soon. This developed after both team owners and players have agreed to sign a new deal that would end the lockout and be used as basis for the operation of the league in the next few years.

The new deal is set to be signed soon as the two parties are still fixing some important details for the new deal. It can be recalled that league’s old labor deal expired in March, and the owners locked out the players, the NFL’s first work stoppage since 1987.

“We have every reason to believe it’s going to be a good day,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said. Once the new deal is signed, the NFL teams would now be able to start signing 2011 draft picks and rookie free agents.Based on the new deal, more than $9 billion in annual league revenues will be divided (about 53 percent to owners and 47 percent to players over the next decade; the old CBA resulted in nearly a 50-50 split); a per-club cap of about $120 million for salary and bonuses in 2011  and at least that in2012 and 2013 plus about $22 million for benefits; a salary system to rein in spending on first-round draft picks; and unrestricted free agency for most players after four seasons.

Should the players’ executive committee vote to accept the deal, it then would go to the 32 team representatives to approve, perhaps later Monday. After that, the total membership would need to vote, with a simple majority required for passage.

The NFL is the highest level of professional American football in the United States. It was formed by eleven teams in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association, with the league changing its name to the National Football League in 1922.

The league currently consists of thirty-two teams from the United States. The league is divided evenly into two conferences  the American Football Conference (AFC) and National Football Conference (NFC), and each conference has four divisions that have four teams each, for a total of 16 teams in each conference.
