The economic condition of the United States might not look good at the moment but President Barrack Obama still had reasons to smile these days.

This developed after a recent survey has shown that his trust rating has increased by two percent. In a poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos the trust rating of Obama is 49 percent slightly better than his 47 percent trust rating in October.

Political experts said the increased in the trust rating of Obama could be attributed to the continue mudslinging between the possible candidates of the Republican party in the 2012 US presidential elections. On the same survey it was also learned that the number of Americans who has high hopes that the country is headed to the right direction also increased from 21 to 25 percent.

Ipsos pollster Julia Clark said the result of the survey is a strong indication that the 2012 US presidential election will be a close fight between the Democrats and Republicans. The survey is taken from 1,106 adults, 937 of whom were registered voters was conducted from October 31 to November 3.

Obama is the first African American to hold the office. He previously served as a United States senator from Illinois, from January 2005 until he resigned following his victory in the 2008 presidential election. A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he was the president of the Harvard Law Review.

He was a community organizer in Chicago before earning his law degree. He worked as a civil rights attorney in Chicago and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. He served three terms representing the 13th district in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. As president, Obama signed economic stimulus legislation in the form of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in February 2009 and the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act in December 2010. Other domestic policy initiatives include the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act.

In foreign policy, he gradually withdrew combat troops from Iraq, increased troop levels in Afghanistan, signed the New START arms control treaty with Russia, ordered enforcement of the United Nations-sanctioned no-fly zone over Libya, and issued a direct order to a small group of American military forces to kill al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Pakistan.

United States president Barrack Obama need to work harder to uplift the economic condition of his country if he wish to get reelected as president on November 2012.

This developed after a recent survey from the Public Policy Polling Survey has shown that he and Republican front-runner Mitt Romney are virtually tied in the group’s monthly national poll on the 2012 election race.  Romney has pulled into a tie with Obama at 45 percent.

Based on the same survey it was learned that Independents were split against Obama 49 percent to 44 percent, and the president will need independent voters to help carry him to victory in November 2012. It can be recalled that independents broke solidly for Obama in his 2008 election but helped Republicans win the U.S. House of Representatives in last November’s congressional elections.

Political experts said the popularity of Obama is on a downhill these days due to the  9.2 percent U.S. jobless rate and prolonged wrangling with Congress over raising the U.S. debt ceiling. The experts said lucky for Obama the election is not this year since he had a strong chance if the elections will be held today.

The experts added if Obama wants to retain his post he needs to do something to improve the economy of US before it is too late in the political race. Moreover, the experts said despite the recent survey result, Obama still has a big chance of winning his reelection bid if the Republicans field a weak candidate and the Democratic party will take advantage of its huge campaign funds.
